lol, go to work for a few hrs and come back to a hoppin thread at least this board is never quiet, or lacking opinions, thats for sure. Just like most anything else in life there are many different approaches to any one given problem and ways to do things. And there definitely is no one way to do anything correctly. The most lucid agruement in my mind is the dsb or barebottom tank.
But I digress back to the main topic of your post. I personally think your lfs was overall giving you some pretty good advice. The major thing I would disagree with is cycling your tank with the damsel. First it is cruel to the animal, and secondly if it survives they are damn hard to catch and remove (which you will probably want to in the future when it starts thrashing your new fish). Just do the shrimp cycle and build your karma If your on a budget why not make most of your rock and get some great live rock from your lfs. Best of luck starting out
