My wife is bringing me 4 bags of Southdown back from Baltimore for me and she says it states that it is not reccomended for aquarium use on the bag. Any reason to be upset?
Southdown not reccomended for use???

Can't say for the sand, but I was told specifically by All-Glass Aquarium Co. to use silicone from the local hardware store on my aquarium eventhough it specifically says not for aquarium use. Like was already stated, in this sue-happy world, they have to put their disclaimer on it. I wouldn't worry about it.

actually silica would be much less reccommended, it does work and much better than cc(IMO), but it is less safe tehn southdown in a reef tank
ps, we used only sd in our 2 tanks at work and guess what, they are happy thriving tanks(almost 5 months now), and my one lfs wonders why i never buy fish, unless we get a new tank, between our 2 we had at home and the 2 at work, we stock for a couple of months, and then we are done until we get a new tank, he ahs no concept of the idea you can keep a fish for 5 months, or in the case of our one tank, 16 or 17 months and counting

Thanks for the responses, you have put my mind at ease I figured that not wanting to be liable was the the case, but I needed a little reassurance.

i changed my tank from cc to a dsb. i used 300lbs of southdown sand no problems. it did take awhile for the tank to clear but it was worth it. my bags did say not for aquariam use. they are just protecting them self. southdown sand also looks great imo. <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" />

When I got my Southdown the warning wasnt on the bag(s). Ive had my 34 set up for 7 months and my 72 set up for 3 months with great results.
As mentioned above, Southdown Company must be fully aware of the growing popularity of their product in our hobby. I wouldnt want to be held liable for countless amounts of money that sits on top of their product in numerous reef set-ups. With that said, Im just waiting to here someone say that the sand cost has went up from $3.99 a bag to who knows how much.

I just got done unloading the four bags out of her car. They sure are purty. All I need now is a tank to put it in.
And your right, who knows how much they will jack up the price eventually, cuz $3.84 a bag is a steal.
