Does anyone know if Home Depot still sells the Southdown play sand? Or, do you know anywhere that sells it for cheap? I checked Lowes and they do not sell it.

Yep. Home Depot sells it. Its now in the building materials area instead of by the gardening stuff. Picked up a 50 lb. bag yesterday for 3 bucks.

Do a search on this forum for Southdown, and you will see a thread I started which gives the UPC and SKU numbers for Southdown. If your Home Depot doesn't have it, they can always order it or transfer from another Home Depot!

actually no home depot's or lowes sale SD in texas. I have looked all over. All though you can find an alternative to SD. It is ultra white silica sand about the grain size of sugar or smaller. I purchased a 70# bag for 4 bucks!
Granted it is silica sand and it will get alot dirtier faster than Aragonite SD. Just have a nice sand sifter crew and you should be aok.

I called home depot and they don't have it and cannot special order it. I bet if someone from another state that does have this stuff could order it and sell it on ----, they would make some money. I would probably buy it like double or tripple what it costs.

I have a source of silica sand that is $10 for 100 lbs. Would people actually pay for shipping?

I'm pretty sure southdown is silicate. Especially if it is the stuff they use in ash trays. This companys product is used in a dolphin exhibit in Las Vegas. Plus, you can get any size you need. Pea gravel sized, down to flour.

if you check the trading section i think she/he found a website that has it. Plus shipping sand from NC to Texas would be an economic plunder.

I've never been to a Home Depot that didn't have playsand. Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida all have it. Just ask for playsand.

The difference in the playsand is what people look for. Most HD carry the Quikete playsand...the southdown is aragonite, the other isn't.

Who cares if it's aragonite or silica?! I just want some white cheap sand! The Quikcrete is brown and looks like poo!

***** has some somoan sand that I may get. It looks nice and is only $7.99 on the website for 10 lb bags. If I get four bags, it is only $14 shipping. I don't know, either that or that other website I was looking at purearagonite com. Anyway, thanks for your help for those who could answer my questions.
