Just thought I'd post this since it took me alot of looking to find
SKU # 578-819
Call your local home depot, ask for special services and they can order it for you if its anywhere in your area. Mine came from Ohio. It was only $4.99 a bag and no shipping!!!
I bought a few extra bags if anyone wants to pick some up.

I was at home depot tonight and they had the 50lb bags of southdown sand. It states right on the bag do not use for fish tanks and something else. Is anyone out there using this type of sand to add to a tank. I bought sand at the lfs argonite pink sand 5 bags of 20lbs for $18.99 each. It would be a lot cheaper to get 50 lbs bags... any help would be great!!!!!

essop3 ... most stores use the upc numbers for ordering (as far as I know), thanks for the heads up though.

...you can use southdown sand even though it says that on the bag. ALOT
of members here have, its actually sought out (for the main reason of price). It's hard to come by, in certain areas. I dont know if you are using it to start a tank or to deepen the sandbed, so a searching here will give you tons of good info on how to do it either way. HTH some

I live in NJ and the home depot i went to had 25 bags of it in stock. I think i am going to buy a few bags to add to the sand i already purchased. I have 2 bags of live sand that is only bacteria. I need to find someone who has some live sand i an add to kickstart my sandbed. I am setting up a 90 g RR tank in the next month. My 45 is not big enough. Any more info on the home depot special would be great... any problems with using this sand.

It shouldn't as it is calcium carbonate based (exactly what we want). So far I have used 210 pounds of it. Great sand. Good mix of grain sizes. Excellent sand bed.
