Spagetti algae care.

I just introduced Chaetomorpha into my 36g tank. Right now it's about the size of a softball and has has about 15 feather dusters in it.
My question is: How large should I let it grow before I start trimming it and what is the best way to do this?

You simply let it get as big as you want it to be, then reach in and pull off a hunk when it gets too big...pretty easy stuff to care for, and it's not very sensitive to being pruned at all.
