Have you ever seen the pencil urchin eating corals or do you only keep SPS? One of the few species I really wouldn't generally trust in a reef. Interested to know your experiences.

this site is chock full of saltwater fish for dirt cheap..they are practically giving stuff away for free. www.petesfishplace.com i had to share this one. i had the guy come out to my location and maintain a 200 gal tank i had running for a while now..he got the job done in no time he even gave me a free clown fish for booking a second apointment with him to clean/maintain the tank for me.

no i keep them in my reef tank. i have two that came in as hicth hikers on something. and i have never had a prob with them. to tell the turth i never even gave a thought to weather they were reef safe or not. they have never bothered anything??? i have two other urchins in the big reef tank also. one is a black long spline that is really neat that i have watched just go over the tops of corals. the other is just a white urchin that i was told is reef safe by my lfs. he is very good so i do beleive him.

It is really only this particular species that I am concerned about overall, in terms of potentially eating corals. Do you have Florida/Caribbean rock?

not sure where my rock come's from i buy at 2 or 3 lfs and never really asked...? but these have been in my big reef tank for at least 2 years that I know of, and they have never bothered anything so far as i can tell. they stay hidden most of the time and only really come out at nite.
