spike in nitrates and nitrites during hypo

I noticed that my nitrates and nitrites have risen since I have started hypo on my fish only, 30 gallon, crushed argon substrate, no liverock tank. Are we 100% sure that hypo doesnt effect beneficial bacteria? It could just be the inverts dying in the sand bed but I wanted to double check.
Before
nitrate = 10
nitrite = 0
Now
nitrate=25
nitrite=.5
Six days into hypo.

yes it affects inverts, you need to keep with water changes on a as needed basis!!! its gonna happen, your die off will slow down, but yes you need to do as many water changes as neccessary!!!

Are you doing hypo in-tank? Did you have LR in the tank then removed it?

I am doing the hypo in tank. I decided to try this tank as a fish only without liverock. However, I do have a tiny clump of macro algae in the tank. I has turned a little pale so I might take it out of the tank.
So, was that a yes or no about the beneficial bacteria? Will I have to recycle my tank after this?

That would be the source of the problem....since it is dying.
Put fake rocks or pvc in the tank for hiding places for the fish.
