Spike in tank ?

Hi , All hope you can help me added some stuff to get rid of red slime algae 2 days ago.My protien skimmer is still going berserk micro bubbles . My water readings are not normal amm.. 0.50 , nitrate 80, nitrite 0.25, ph 7.8, phos. 0.25. I might add that I also stirred up some ls. as the red stuff appeared to be dieing.Plan on doing a water change tommorrow this is a 55 gal. at least 10 gallons is that enough? Thanks John

If memory serves me you should have turned your protien skimmer off and removed any carbon filtration for 48hrs and then do a 20% water change after 48hrs.

I just had the same problem. I did turn off the skimmer and took carbon out. Water changes were my best friend I did 10gal every week on my 55. Cut back the lighting to about 5 hours a day for a week. My skimmer did go nuts after I turned it back on. I also took a turkey baster and blew up all the crap on the rocks. I found I didn't have enough flow on one side of the tank so I bought a new power head and repositioned the flow in the tank. After all that I seemed to clear up pretty quick. Gl
