Sponge covering palm tree coral

this is a new palm tree coral. it was bought with this sponge on it. i believe its a encrusting sponge. and after looking closer i noticed it has grown up the corals.. how do i remove this .. i think its killing them.

Usually, exposing a sponge to air will kill it. You could try laying the coral and all out for a few minutes and expose it to air. You could also try a freshwater dip and see if that will kill some of it. The freshwater dip shouldn't hurt the coral, it will just slime over.

its too late..

rip to palm tree coral. the sponge sucked the life out of it then the fish picked it away.. all i can hope is that it might grow back someday.. was in my bffs tank. i just informed her to be more careful when buying things..
