Anyone have or know anything about sponge crabs? I really want to get one of these guys they look awesome!
The Sponge Crab (Dromidiopsis australiensis) is a member of the sponge crab family Dromiidae. They are referred to as sponge crabs due to the habit of most species carrying a living sponge on the carapace (they may also carry sea squirts/ascidians). The last two legs of the crab are clawed and are smaller than the preceding pairs and are used to grip the sponge. The Dromiids are considered to be very primitive crabs. The body of this crab is generally colored brown or gray and they are excellent at camouflage as they hide under sponge. This species is thought to be endemic to Australia along the east and west coast and can be found from the intertidal zone to depths of 10 meters.
