Sponge eaters

My nitrates and phosphates are zero of very very close to it. I have hitchhiker sponges all over. I do use DT's weekly and other foods for Coco's dusters etc and I try to not overfeed.
Some of mine have been there for over a year now. I have several of the common white ones, one blue one ,red ones and of recent a fairly large brown one too.
If there reason to worry about them.????? Some of them are pretty. All corals fish and inverts seem happy.

well, i'd sorta worry about them where yours are because they will eventually overgrow the corals skeletons.
but sponges eat dt's :)

Yea I realize the DT's feeds them but I need it for feeding my "critters". Yes I do have one white one that has totally surrounded the base of my Frog. But it never seems to intrude on the actual live coral branches, only on one old dead one. I will take a shot some morning when close and keep a watch on it.

Here is a quick shot of the sponges in the bottom of the shots. The Cloves where on a piece of stuff I wegded into the bottom of this clift. The blue arrows show other spots they have taken over. and there are others at the other end of the tank.
Sorry about the poor shot with refection.

ok time to clear up a misconception..... Sponges dont consume nitrates or phosphates directly.... they are filter feeders, they dont feed through direct absorbtion of chemicals from your water they trap little bitty specs of stuff *(phyto or zoaplankton if you will) and eat that. if your feeding phyto then that is probably why they are flourishing. I like sponges, they are definatly one of my favorite animals.
