I know it isn't the best pic, Does anybody know what the yellowish green sponge looking thing to the left of the pic is? Just wondering if it is a pest or not. Seems to be doing well whatever it is, it is very pourous I assume this is how it feeds. Any info is greatly appreciated, I just got going with saltwater, the tank is about 5 months old now, and doing great.

Good to know, they seem to do well in my setup. Sounds like one of the reasons my nitrates are almost zero at 5 months into the process.

I have a few in my tank also sometimes my inverts/fish eat them and a few months later they are back but nothing to worry about at all.Great for color in the tank.

Agreed with adding color, I have probably 4 of them, and they seem to do better in the shadows. I was just concerned about them overtaking the rock. The inverts seem to leave mine alone, or at least so far.

I don’t think they will take over they don’t seem to multiply very much in my tank. I also thought it was weird that they got eaten but it happened a couple times but they just grow right back.

I was told it was bubble algae, when I bought the rock from an established aquarium, it was covered with it, a couple of weeks later, I added my hermit crabs, and they demolished it, just as I was told bubble algae was a pain to get rid of.

Just be careful not to let it explode, I think it will spread that way. Do you have hermits? I can't keep mine off of it.

I have tons of them but they have not touched it not sure why. Maybe I need to take it out and remove it with tweezers.

I beleive some of the hermits are "blue leg", but the hermit crabs that really put a hurting on the bubble algae were the scarlet hermits, maybe they were just hungry when I bought them.
