sponge turning white/ dying off?

What kind of sponge is it?Not to sound hateful or anything
but if your tank is still in the cycle why do you have it
any way's.I believe that a sponge should only be put
in a tank that has had time to mature for at least 6 months.
How did you acclimate it,they should never be exposed
to the air,or they will die.

The live rock had sponge already on it. It could also be orange coralline. I am new to this scene. There are no fish in the tank as I am just cycling it. The ammonia level is 1.0 so I am doing a small water change.. I just don't know if I should scrape off the white or leave it alone during the cycle.

I say just leave it in there,i really don't thing that it's
goin to hurt anything,besides if it makes it sponges
are a good thing to have.They are hard to keep alive
they seem to prefer a low lighted area,with a strong
amountof current.Also i really don't thing that water
changes is a good idea turing the cycle,just let it all
happen,there is one very big thing that we all have
to have in this hobby,and that is alot of patience,well
maybe two things the other being the money it takes
to keep it all going,but it's so worth it.
