ive got my fist tree sponge...but during the shipping the bag had popped and only half of it was in water.....so how do i know if its still dead or alive...i stuck it in the sand...and what do they do ?....

I would suggest calling the company you bought from and getting a replacement.

definitely get a replacement. Any part of a sponge that touches the air will most likely die off and pollute your tank. Air will get trapped in the cell walls and you can not remove it.

Contact the company you ordered it from first. IMO, it they don't require you to return the sponge as proof, then keep it in your tank until it starts to fall apart. There is always a slim chance it will make it, though it is an extremely slight chance. I just wouldn't want you to get rid of it until you were sure it was dying. If the company does need you to send the sponge back to them, then you should definitely do that because the chance of the one you have making it is very small.

sorry, but i have to disagree with you this time kris
ithas been my observation that if a songe touches air, the whole thing will surely die(not just a small part and not just a chance). While the sponge decays, it could ccause a spike. I would remove it from the tank and keep it in another container with salt water, instead of risking a spike

thanks guys for the info....i just took it out and put it into another tank.....but it looked the same as it did when i got it.....how can you tell if its dead...oh well from now on im stickin to corals that when they die you know there dead ....:D
