Are sponges eay to keep? My LFS has an orange, tree looking, one. He was very busy so I didnt ask about it. My tank isn't very old,but it has cycled, and doing well. It's 125gal with 40lbs live rock, large wet/dry with bio balls, two inches crushed coral. All readings at zero,PH-8.2,I dont know the calcium. am I ready to start reefing?I would love to add this if it's not going to die from lack of experiance. STEVE

i bought one of those about 6 months ago..
i had a hard time finding a place to put it..my lfs said to squeeze the foot and put it in a rock .. i never could get the foot in a rock because it was large and it had a hard calcium deposit on the bottom (good thing) ..i had to place it in the substrate ..the foot softened and the tree died...sad story...could have been my lights
50/50 is all i have herebut am planning on another blue bulb soon (lazy i guess) .. i do have a "burning bush"??? tree that had a smaller foot and it fit in a rock and is doing very well the tips seem to gather a lot of algae though...well, thats my long story...... rick

my experience with sponges is that they aren't too hard to keep (blue being the exeption) but I had to clean mine from time to time with a soft tooth brush in some tank water. As they filter the water through their bodies small particles of debris stick to the outside making it look dirty. Also remember that if you have angels they will feed on it, though it woulden't likely kill the sponge unless you have a lot of angels or a really big one.
Lots of luck,
