Because both sides of the U-Tube is underwater during a power outage, air will not enter the tube. Thus, siphon doesn't break.
In a overflow, you're only siphoning between the inner and outter box. You dont siphon all the way to the sump.
Yea lemme try it again ha.. I have a pump in the sump connected to the spray bar... (my tank is a drilled overflow) now.. i dont have any siphon things on it.. am i at risk for having it siphon back into the tank? I mean I turn the pump off sometimes and I never see if comming back in from the spray bar to the sump
From your pictures it looks like your spray bar is not in the water (not completely submerged) . If the holes in your spray bar arent under the water there is no way for you to get a syphon started... only the wwater in the pipes will go back down to the sump and that isnt that much... less than a gallon.
. I wouldnt trust that It may not seem like alot of water is coming back to the sump, but turn the pump off and watch it for an hour and see what happend. i bet that you get a rise in the sump... I would be carful with that...
I do get water back in my sump obviously when I turn the pump off.. but only until the water is not high enought in the tank to fall over the overflow... that is not what im talking about... there is room in my sump for that.. what im askin about is the syphoning from the spray bar... do you mean that a syphon can start from the spray bar which puts water into my tank, a syphon could start and make it go backwards into my sump? I mean it has never happened.. and im sure never would, i dont see how it could be possible
All im saying is, from what you have described, You have a standpipe in your tank (the white verticle pvc piece on the right with holes in it). Since there re holes in that below the waters surfae the water would drain into that and back down to the sump.... you say it hasnt but im not sure why.... it doesnt make sense to me... :notsure: im just saying i would be leary of that. how long have you watched it with the pump off? if the holes are small it will take a while to see a change.
Long time... ive had it setup like this for two years... I just dont see how a syphone could start....plus there is a hole of two on the top horizontal bar that has holes half under and above the water line
