well i just recieved a bunch of sps frags from a member on another forum. i already have a green montipora digitata frag in my tank, it was my first sps and its been doing great, it grows really quick too. i also have a pavona cactus which is also doing really good, it has great polyp extension and nice colors. the new frags i just got consist of
-orange acro with bright blue tip
-bright green monti cap w/purple rim
-purple monti cap
-larry jackson w/purple tip (look like tri-color acro)
-poccilpipora damicornis bright green
-green slimmer
now, the green slimmer and the both the monti caps are producing a real lot of slime. im not sure if thsi is normal or not, but my other sps havent done this, so this is why im worried. none of them really have opened yet, but they were only in the tank a little while, im hoping they will all be opened tomorrow. so basically what im asking is if its normal for the sps to be sliming a lot because they were just introduced to the tank? thanks.

Don't worry about it, caps seem to slime alot, and the A. Youngei is named "Slimer" becuase it is a slime producing machine.
It may take a couple of days to get good polyp extension too, so be patient, lol.
Got any pics?

i can get pics tomorrow, lights are already off. sps are so addicting, especially the frags because one frag looks so good and then you notice you have enough room for a few more lol. im glad to hear they slime a lot, hopefully they will be alright. ive got to pick up another powerhead also, hopefully get a good amount of random current going for them once they start to polyp. thanks for the response.

I am going broke buying SPS frags. The frags that I have bought average $100 for a 3/4" piece :scared: .
They look so nice and are totally worth the money. When they get large enough, I will start fragging them and use them to trade or sell them. I need to make my tank pay for itself... :hilarious

the problem is for those super expensive acros, none of them are fast growers! so you spend 75 bucks for 1/2 and inch and it never grows into a colony! but the expensive montis always grow super fast

well heres a pic of the green slimer. hes the only one im worried about because he lost a lot of tissue at the top. do you think it will recover? im starting to see some polyps opening at the bottom of the frag so i hope he'll be alright.

i just got him in the mail so its stress from the shipping. hes about 3-4 inches from the water surface, its a 30 gallon tank with 250w MH, plenty of light. theres enough flow in the tank, not sure how much, but i am working on more. and hes not touching the zoas, theres a good 2-3 inches between the two. any other help?

Theres not much u can do but just keep feeding him make sure he gets the light and make sure there is a ton of flow cause they love the flow. I got a monti cap that was totally bleached and it took alittle while but now all of its colors are back. Make sure ur alk, calcium and ph are all really well and the temp is steady at a good temp and keep ur eye on him. No easy fix for this.

calcium is 420, ph is 8.3, temp is at 80 usually drops to 79 at night. i just added another powerhead so there is plenty of flow. i guess all i can do is wait
