J_Cal, i'm actually preparing for a similar endeavor. I'm dismantaling my 55 cause i'm moving (far away) and i'm going to set up a 20 gallon. I'm taking my filters off the 55 and puting them on the 20 so it should stay super clean , and making a DIY hood which i'm going to move my VHO ballast over to and run 4x75W bulbs (300W total) and try to do an SPS tank. I've done LPS in an 8 gal before, and got real lucky. I'm not gonna get started till sept. with this project, so keep us up to date on what you learn.

My 12 gallon nanos that we are getting at my shop come with 65 watt 50/50 PC bulbs so thats where i am getting it.....i dont know whay theyd be different but i am 100% positive that it is 65 watts
anyway calc was a concern and if they are gonna use it up that fast ill prolly be better off just trying something else :-/ as far as heat goes the same systems at work are staying 81-83 so thats not scaring me too much heh...the calc does concern me, especially since dripping calc into the tank would def be a major pain :-/ thanks to all that replied. I will prolly just do a ZOO reef with maybe 1 monti or mille or something like that as a 1 of if at all

Dude, you ask and we told you. Just like every thread, if you let it hang around long enough your bound to hear what you want. You asked about acros, now its monties and millies. To be honest, if you had more light I think you'd be better off with easy slow growing acros over miliies and monits only because of how fast the mils and monts grow, you'd probably never be able to keep up with the calc, if you did you'd probably throw your alk out of wack. That's IF you managed to get them to grow.
I think your going to do what ever you want regardless of what anybody says, and that's fine....
