I was at Menards yesterday looking at stain. Menards is same thing as a Lowes or Home Depot. Anyways I really want to stain my stand and canopy so I can see the grain. But I want it to be black, is there such thing as a pure black stain. I was looking at Minwax and they have a color caled ebony, but it looks more like a real dark brown. Any suggesions besides using black paint?

Welcome to world of finding that right stain!
I remeber going thru the hell of finding a stain to match my stand.
I say try the ebony stain with a glossy clearcoat on a small section of what your staining (buy the little can it only $3.00)
Also ask the guys that work there they might have some suggestions.
Home depot cares olympic stains also
Olympic
Try this maybe:
Sherwin Williams Stains
Minwax Ebony
Minwax tudor

When I did my first two stands, I used two coats of Kilz and two more coats of striaght black enamal and you could still see the grain. I know that probably not what you looking to do, but maybe just he two coats of black would give you close to what you want. You can always try it on some scrap wood left over from your stand.
good luck,

Well I went back to Menard's today and bought the little can of Minwax Ebony. And a scrape peice of pine, that was light in color. I did two coats and it looks perfect. Thanks everyone for the help!
