Stand Question

Hey guys I am designing a stand to build and have a question, or more like an opinion from you. I could cover the back of the stand up with the exception of like a foot or so for plumbing and overflow tubes, or I could leave it almost all open. What would you suggest? I didn't know if covering it would restric airflow or anything. But I was wondering if it maybe held in some noise or light from the fuge. Just throw out any advice before I finish my plans. thanks.

Yes it would limit lighting and noise but also would limit your options for plumbing, eletrical cords, etc. IMHO I would leave most of it open so you can "tweak" your system later on.

Just be sure to provide horizontal bracing in one way or another. If you leave it open, then maybe screw triangular pieces of plywood on the upper corners to help restrict movement.

1/4" plywood or luan plywood is plenty strong for the back. Just make sure you have sufficient nails in the perimeter and you can drill or cut openings as you need them. The main purpose of a back is to prevent racking, but light prevention is an added bonus.
