Why risk it? Spring for the live sand. this is an expensive hobby, probably why I dont play golf...
I didn't create this thread to debate sand (been there done that). Nor am I trying to convince anyone else to use something they dont want to. Obviously its done already and its not the 1rst time I've used play sand in my aquarium. Some of you will continue to buy aquarium sand no matter what we say about experience with play sand and some of us will continue to use play sand regardless of how much you tell us we need to spend $1/lb on sand marked for aquarium use. I put sand in the tank for one single purpose, I dont want to look at just glass at the bottom. I may have half an inch coverage at best (and four bags of play sand I didn't bother using). I dont use it for filtration, to keep inhabitants that require it or for supplementary larval feeding for corals and such. I have absolutely no use for live sand even if I were a billionare.
