I just purchased a Choc Chip Star Fish and he keeps hanging out at the water line dangling backwards with a couple of his legs floating - is this normal??

Are your water parameters OK? How long did you acclimate him before putting him in?
They're not reef safe either. :D

My water tested fine - I even took some with me to the LFS to make sure.
Approx. 1 hour as per LFS.

he's fine. Ours does it all the time. We call it either "sunning himself" OR begging for food. Thats when we usually feed him a bit of shirmp.

I was hoping that he was just hungry - I did just that and drizzled some brine shrimp over him - he was on the bottom this morning and seems quite happy - there are lines in the sand where he has been cruizing around.
Is there anything specific that I should be feeding him??
I appreciate the help - this is my first sw tank and I am still learning.

I feed my anything meaty anytime I see him at the top of the water near the front.... like for example thawed -frozen shrimp, octipus, squid..he also seems to like that krill that comes in those plastic cans! lol... AND Everysingle time I put seaweed selects on a lettuces clip..he beats feet to get to it..he will hang out all day n all night until he eats it all. I have to feed another sheet to the fish, cuz he hogs the whole thing down!
I have mine in a reeftank, but so far..I have never seen him munching on any of my corals.. I do try to keep him fed...I dont know whether that has anything to do with it or not, maybe its just luck!
hope this helps.
