Star keeps going into overflow tube

I have a fancy red star in my sump. He is very active and he disappeared 2 days ago. I found him in 1 of the 2 overflow tubes going into my sump, obviously the one with no water flow. He seemed all compressed, so I panicked and by tapping I got him out. I thought he was dead, but within 2 minutes he was back on the glass as if nothing happened. This morning I couldn't find him again and sure enough he was back in the tube. Is it normal for him to make his way into the tubing??? I'm worried that he might get stuck and their really isn't any water in the tube.

Thanks, I figured that if he could get in he could probably get out. Should I add some stuff to the sump, so that he has hiding spots???? I'm just concerned with him being in the overflow tube because he's probably out of water.....

it would be nice for him to have stuff to hide under, they cant see persay but they can tell when light is hitting there skin and they feel exposed to predation. a couple rocks would do the trick nicely and if you stack them so you can see under them but no light gets there chances are you'll be able to see him most of the time.(once he finds the place)

I will get some rock, but their isn't really ever any serious light hitting him cause he's in the sump.... Should I just add some LR rubble???

*S* he can tell what areas are brighter than the rest, so if the light level is constant he will always choose the darker area. the rubble might work if its big enough for him to find a cave to squeeze into. I would use a couple medium rocks so there is a decent size cave for him (though you might be amazed at how small a space they will cram themselves into)
