star polyp problem

I have a 24 gallon aquapod up since august. I recently upgraded lights to 150 w sunpac. Every thing was good until yesterday. Star polyps do not look good but are still opening some what. I tested my water 0 trite and trates and ammonia. PH 8.2 Calcium 380. Salt was a little high .028. I have added a lot of new stuff in the past week. Could they just be in shock or should I worry. Also my toadstool leather did not really open.

What kind of lights did you upgrade from? I have heard that you have to acclimate the corals to more powerful lights if you upgrade...But I don't have any experience with this...

Yes I agree, if you didn't acclimate your corals over time it can shock them and cause them to bleach or die.

well if they are in shock from the lighting it must have been within the last two weeks that you upgraded otherwise it has been to long i would think this wouldnt be that big of a deal with star polyps but if it is this light shock then they may bleach or spit out there host algea later leaving them to starve they do this because the algea produces to much oxygen wich burns them so move them away from the light or probly better for the rest of the coral to move the light away from the tank and then slowly bring it closer over the next couple weeks.

U dont need to move the lights away from the tank to many things that can go wrong with tryin to prop them up away and moving them closer when i switched my 90 gallon tank to mh i didnt alot or research on this site and found the best way to acclimate ur corals to ur lights is the amount of time you have these light on per day for example for the next three days only wrong ur MH 2 hours a day then the 3 days after that run them for 3 hours and keeps bumping up the time one for every there days till u get to the desired amount of time that you want to run ur MH. I def think that is whats causing you to have a problem with ur star polpys there just shocked by how much more lighting there getting. Kinda like some who lives in chicago for the winter and goes to cancun for vacation it he stays out in the sun all day he going to
and turn into one big blister he has to take it a few hours a day till his skins gets use to the high intensity of light hope this helps good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, small amounts of exposure with an increasing interval..I do 30 minutes a day coming up from 3 hours until I reach my desired time. Running carbon all of a sudden can cause stress and bleaching in corals also. It cleans the water so well that the huge increase in light penetration can be the same thing almost as like replacing MH bulbs...
