Star Polyps

The first coral that I plan on adding to my tank are some green Star Polyps.I read on how to acclimat them and that isn't my question.What I want to know is it ok to add them after 1 month of having 3 damsel fish in my tank?Any input on this form anyone and I'll respond back as soon as possible.

The amount of time doesn't matter as much as the water chemistry. What are the water parameters? Lighting?

Also, what kind of damsels are they . I had a velvet damsel tear up a new frag of star polyps I put in the tank to the point of being almost eliminated. They are just now starting to make a comeback after removing the damsel.

i waited 6 months before i added any polyps. since i've added them they've done excellent. i would test the water to make sure your tank has completely cycled before i start throwing coral in. one month is too soon but that's my opinion.

I'd be interested in your water tests also(ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/ph/calcium/alkalinity)...personally I'd suggest you insure your system is stable prior to adding any coral. Also info on lighting as well as filtration would be helpful. Star polyps are very good corals to start with but I would insure the system was stable prior to attempting them. As for the damsels..well they could nip them.....I'd see about removing the dang things myself. I have one left from 18 months ago....a blue lil devil deamon...he doesn't bother anything so I've left him be...for now...but still after 18 months I keep a close eye on the lil monster!!

polyp is very easy to keep ..
i even keep them in flo light..10K and blue actin..and they are spreading like crazy..

gotta watch out for nitrate level...

Thanks for the advice so far.I think what I'm going to do is to take some of my tank water to my LFS and have them test it for me because my test kit is very limited.I still have 3 weeks as of today until the Damsels have been in my tank for a full month.The one decent sized mushroom coral that I got as a bonus on a piece of rock I bought is doing awesome under my 20watt 10000K and 20watt 50/50 actinic fluorescent lights.My water is very clear and clean looking with these filters running:
1 Aquaclear 200 hang on the back filter
1 Aquaclear 150 hang on the back filter
1 Fluval canister filter w/media inside for biological needs.

you gotta check at least the ammonia, nitrite, ph, salinity..
just looking at your water doesn't mean it's ok to put new fish or coral..
just be careful..

As of 05/20/02,here are the reading for the water in my tank.
salinity is between 1.022 and 1.023
ph is at 8.0
ammonia is at 0
carbanite hardness is at 9ppm
This is the part that confuses me,this is my nitrite scale:
<0,1mg/1 color for scale is yellow
0,1mg/1 color for scale is orange
0,25mg/1 color for scale is lt. red
0,5mg/1 color for scale is red
1-10mg/1 color for scale is dark red
my nitrite level is at <0,1mg/1 yellow
any thoughts or more advice.

I had to take my damsles out they wer harassing my corals. My star polyop didn't come out for 3 weeks because of the damsles. They finaly opened up again after the damsles were gone for 3 days.

Don't get hermits they will eat them i have them and i believe my hermits are eating them i'm going to remove hermits.
