Star Stripe Puffer..

Go with frozen krill, shrimp, silver sides and such. This is a fish that is going to need a meaty diet. That and they get pretty good size as well.
So, IMO: no he wont eat flake food.

i feed mine freeze dried shrimp, squid and clams, squid is by far his favorite, he's huge now. They grow very fast.

Nearly all puffers I've seen (dogface, pork, toby) will eat some flake. Don't feed it as the staple though, squid, silversides, krill, shrimp, etc. are all better. But, as an occasional mix, I don't see anything wrong with it. My $.02. Bo

Perfect, he'll most likely eat it, but live without high protein he will not do!

neither my stars and stripe nor dogface eats flake food. the dogface is attracted to its smell though and goes chomping at it like a bull terrier. but as soon as it has it in its mouth it spits it back out. while it may be true that some puffers eat flakes, i agree with everyone above that they need a meaty diet. flake food is definitely not a stable. my s & s puffer loves nori too and all kinds of frozen or live seafood...scallop, clams, oyster, mussels, crab, shrimp, fish, squid, octopus...pretty much anything. it also takes brine and mysis, but that's not substantial enough either. if you want a healthy growing puffy feed a varied diet like a seafood combo you can get at the grocery. don't overfeed though cuz they will eat themselves to death. great choice of pet by the way. hope you'll take care of it well and provide a large home as it grows. as said above they will grow fast and to the size of a football eventually. expect it to double in size within a year.
