Starfish chowing down a sick anemone?

I have a sick green carpet that I have been watching closely for about a week as well as my nitrates in the tank. I thought I would leave him until this morning. His mouth was open and he didn't look good last night - and my nitrates were showing just a bit. I was ready to take him out this morning and do a water change. I got up and my chocolate chip "CHIP' was on top on it chowing down. Now CHIP is a very healthy looking star. We are thinking of changing his name to PORKCHOP. Will it hurt him to eat the carpet? I think sadly enough the carpet was history. And amazingly enough my nitrates are way down this am. I think I'll do a water change anyway. Should I get the remains out of my tank or let CHIP finish the job???

If you are sure the anenome is a gonner then you should take it out of your tank. Chip won't do an efficient job at getting rid of all that biowaste. If the anenome has started turning into snot then you might want to avoid touching it with bare hands--they stink like CRAZY.
