i've searched the forums and have read that during aclimation brittle stars will lose legs.
i just want to know how concerned i should be, so far my star introduced to the tank on friday has lost three legs and the skin over the top of his disk. i removed the legs, but not soon enough, i tested and had a bit of and amonia spike. .025, so i did a 1/3 water change to combat this.
the star is still alive, but lathargic, and has been out in the open, which is not normal behavior. his condition has worsed ove the past couple days that why i posted. first the skin ovr his disk was gone, then he started losing legs. i'm not sure if he ate something in the tank that would be too large for him. i spot fed him a silverside saturday. it was a small piece. monday was when i noticed the disc being punctured and later that day the first leg came off, then over night and this after noon it has lost two more. is there anything i can do to help it? or will it heal on its own. any help is areciated.
in the tank i have 15 hermits blue and scarlets, 28 astreala snails, and two clarkii clowns (aquacultured)
i have a cpr bak bak 2r skimmer, 1 maxi-jet 900 powerhead, and a penguine 330 bio wheel filter.
all levels were normal untill today, amonia 0.25ppm, NO2 0.2ppm, NO3 2.5-12.5, PH 8.2 alk normal.
i have 35lbs of LR, 2-3inch LS substraight.
