We have a dual filtration system. Component one is an inside the tank powerhead 1800 psi - intake covered by sponge filtration that acts as a biological filter and component two is a standard upflow filter overhead return which filters thru biological coral stone and separate charcole media.
Our 65 gal. reef tank has live sand substraight which is 2 inches deep, 100 lbs of live rock and coral, sm. brittle star, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, 4 anemones, 2 emerald crabs, 1 sand sifter star, 6 damsels, clarkii clown, skunk clown, gobbie, basslet, 2 lettuce nudibranch, 5 gorgonians, 5 different plants, 2 feather dusters, flame scallop, pygmy angle, coral beauty angle and two hawkfish.
Our salinity (PH) is 8.2, Nitrite is 0.25, Ammonia is 0, Nitrate is 80 (but we did a 20% water change since that reading so the Nitrate should be much lower now) and our temp is about 76-78 degrees.
I acclimate all of our reef residents with the drip method (I follow the "saltwaterfish.com" directions word by word).
So what is wrong with him?

I've posted in the other thread....it is a VERY young, maximally stocked (probably overstocked) tank that is quite inappropriate for these animals. Water conditions really need to be much better. All in all they are relatively hardy animals, but there is a limit to what they can take. And a young cycling tank is generally more than they can take...especially if specific gravity/salinity is too low. You've given your pH, not your salinity.

how much do you spend average on feeding that shrimpy????? i think they are so awesome, but dont know if its worth spending so much on a starfish for him every so often.

bronco- I have three of these guys. they are very cool. i put in about 4 starfish a month. I started with linkia but chocolate chips are cheaper. my lfs will sometimes give me dead or half eaten ones for nothing.

u dont need o kill 4 stars a mouth for a shrimp. try to put one in and let the harqulim shrimp eat its tubes and swich it out before it dies and let it grow back, that way u dont spend so much. try that and be HUMANE

Those shrimpies are neat but I would never want one as they need star fish to survive. I love my star and could not imagine feeding a shrimp a nice star no matter what kind of star it is.
