Starfish Propagation Possible?

The only ones I am aware that you can propagate are the asterinas (the little ones which tend to come along as hitchhikers). They periodically split into two so you will gradually get more of them.

I have actually seen this happen . . . both in person and via pictures on the net (ryebread had this happen)

Does this sound right or not
Breeding and Propagation: Relative Breeding Ease: Difficult
Chocolate Chip Stars can reproduce by sexual means; however, they can also regenerate through asexual fragmentation. When one part of a Chocolate Chip Sea Star is cut off or detached from the main body, it may grow into a complete animal provided that the amputated part contains some part of the oral disk, while the main body may regenerate a new limb. To reproduce sexually, the sea star will release gametes from pores at the base of each arm. Each arm houses two reproductive organs.
Thanks for the replys,

fisherman (in the phillipines if think) cut up starfish because they were attacking the fish. What happened was it produced more starfish. So propagation is very possible.

I have actually heard that story before, forgot all about it, thats a little ironic.:D
I was really asking about the cc (might not make any difference). I dont figure brittles will prop though right.
Thanks,
Kyle

Yeah, that's the story they'd tell ya in elementary school science classes to teach you about creatures that regenerate. That and when they made us pull a worm in half and watch it over a few days. Mean teachers.

Same issue happened with the crown of thorn starfish in australia .... great barrier reef was plagued by these reef eaters and then they were scooped up - sliced up and dumped .... then the problem increased in a variety of ways!!!
