starting a 24 or 28 greef with swf and some corals proposed set up and extra filtration

The unit I am looking into buying comes complete with the following:
Lighting The 24 gallon Nano Cube Deluxe includes two 36-watt 50/50 compact fluorescent lamps offering 72 total watts or 3 watts of lighting per gallon. Installed with a splashguard lens for bulb and ballast protection. Energy-saving ballast allows for "flicker-free" starts and dependable long-term performance. Provides maximum light output with the least amount of heat production.
Filtration
This discreet filtration system is hidden to provide maximum space for your aquarium inhabitants. Sponge filter traps detritus and free-floating particulate matter. Activated carbon bag removes dissolved organics and odors. Ceramic Rings and Bio-Balls provide the ideal environment for beneficial bacteria.
Pump
The included submersible pump is rated at 290 gph for water circulation.
Double Fan Cooled Canopy
Heavy-duty ABS canopy can be flipped back and held in place for easy access for cleaning and feeding. Specifically designed for extra heat output with 4 vents and 2 built-in cooling fans to dissipate excess heat. Ensures cooler operation to extend the life of bulbs and ballast. Deluxe Nano Cube features a ventilated reflector.

This sounds like a pretty good set up to me and I would like any opinions or thoughts, Depending on the size I will be using 15 lbs live and 15 lbs base rock and 10lbs to 15 lbs live sand. My next question is I already have a fluval fx 5 that I would like to use to aid in filtration. my concern is excess heat generation and actually filtering out the tank to completely any comments or thoughtful insight is much appreciated . I believe the fx 5 is large enough to filter a 125 gallon tank. I just am not sure if it would be detrimental to the environment in the tank

I usually go at a minimum "double" on all of my filtration.. so on a 25 gallon tank provide something that's rated for at least 50 gallons. On my 15 gallon I'm using one rated for 50 gallons and I think it's just right. However the Fluval fx5 looks to be a VERY large canister filter rated for tanks up to 400 gallons. Have you used it before? Just from reading about it real quick I'd say the problem you're going to have with that filter for that tank is that it says it moves 925 gallons per hour. Your pump is already circulating 290 gallons per hour on a 24 gallon tank which is 12x on movement and is right around where you need it. That canister filter if I'm looking at the right one is going to be pushing 38x your tank capacity per hour!... sounds like you're going to have a tank with a little tidal wave in it.

The fx5 would be way to much for that tank. I use a 406 on my 60 gallon reef. So i think that the fx5 would work on like a 75 and still be for lack of a better term, over filtering.
