I'm going to be adding to my 75g aggressive (which is only in its beginning stages) over the next few months. I'd love to see pics of your 75g aggressive tanks. I'd also be intersted in hearing what you all keep in your 75.
And if you could comment on my list of potentials, I'd appreciate it.
- 1 banded moray eel (already got it... love it)
- 1 radiata lion (volitans will get to big for my 75)
- 1 bluejaw trigger, female
- 1 french angel (how fast will this outgrow my 75?)
- a few leather corals (if possible)
- some mushrooms (if possible)
- green star polyp (if possible)
- 120 lbs southdown sand (already got it)
- 40 lbs LS
- 40-60lbs LR
I'd like to have a panther grouper, but I'm pretty sure that will outgrow my tank too quickly to make it worth owning, correct?. I'd also like to have a puffer (porcupine), but I don't think I'd have room with the other fish on the list, and I'm not sure how a puffer and a lion would get along.. I have a very good relationship with my LFS, so trading in fish as they outgrow is not an issue.
Dang, I need a bigger tank.

If you were willing to put some money into the lights say half of the tank lit up by the normal florescents and then light the half with the corals with a 24in 50/50 32w Power Compact light, then you would be able to keep the mushrooms and pylops. Not to say that they with the invertibrate feather dusters might fall victim to your fish...its ultimately up to you, although I wouldn't recommend it. The french angel and triggerfish will outgrow the tank eventually. The triggerfish depending on size say a 3-4in would outgrow within a year or 2. The french angel depending on size anywhere from 6 months to a year. A porcupine and grouper would be sutible for a bigger tank but not such as a 75 gallon, you are even pushing it with those fish i'm sad to say. Removing one from the list would be better. I wish you the best!

in our 75gl is cc, a few rocks, a damsel
anyway, since the trigger is dead, i don't really want the snapper or the damels, so they'll go bye bye to the lfs.
I'm clueless on what to add. (which is why i'm reading your post, I need ideas) I want a yellow tang but the 75gl is too short.
It looks like just the damsel will be in there untill we get money to buy fish.
good luck on your new tank, I loved geting a bigger tank.

Ya think so? This is a constant debate on the Reef board - tangs and tank size. Everyone will agree that a 90g or larger is fine for most tangs, but a lot of people think that a 75 is ok for yellows, purples, koles and hippos. If the tang was the largest fish in the tank and there wasn't a ton of LR, I think you could get away with it.

JMO i have no comment on the fish ur planning, but for the corals i would say it's ganna be pretty hard to keep them happy in there. in an aggresive tank it's pretty hard to keep the nitrate low, all of the fish u have listed are messy eaters which will keep ur nitrate at around 20ppm or highter. it's ganna be a fight keeping them down. the corals might live but might not grow or florish. coral need as low nitrate as possible.HTH

I only have a 55 gallon with a porqupine puffer,v. lionfish, hippo tang and a cow fish. I don't have any corals but I have around 40 pounds of live rock. My tank might have to much in it according to some people, but my nitrates stay very low. I do a 10 gallon water change once a month. I feed twice a day and everything is fine. I would slowly add the things you want and watch your water closely. You may end up having to get better filters or do more frquent water changes, but I think you can have all the items you have listed.

Thanks. That's a good point... one that I hadn't thought about. I was concerned about critters picking/eating the corals, but I never thought about the nitrate levels with the aggressive eaters. Either way, the corals would be the last to go in, so I'll have a chance to monitor my water for a few months once I get my fish population established.
Thanks again.

how big are your fish you will definalty have to get a bigger tank
when the puffer cow fish and lion grow to there full size they wont even be able to turn around they all grow longer then the width of our tank if the lion dose not sting any one the cow fish will probaly get stressed out in such a small space which will cause it to release its posin and kill all your fish

right now my fish are 3-4 inches long. I plan on setting up a 240 gallon in the next 6-7 months. I hope I can wait that long. Right now my fish are growing fairly slow and they all get along fine.
