Softy's, LPS, and SPS are fine for a beginner, but your selection should only include hardy, easy to care for, aquacultured species in my opinion.
If you want an LPS tank I would not start with Softies, I would start with an easy LPS like CandyCane. The problem is that Softies are not very compatible with stoney corals.
But, if you want to have a softy tank then go for it. I've seen a lot of stunning softy tanks.
