Starting a saltwater tank

So could I just put the live rock in my tank and let it do this cycle before adding anything else? Or do I need to buy a separate tote to do this in? Are there any step by step guides that tells you everything in detail what to do to setup a tank that I can get? As I go through researching I am finding more and more steps that need to be takin to start this hobby.

It gives the rock time to get rid of any dead stuff on it. The bacteria and remaining critters consume the dead

I just makes sure the stuff in the live rock has completed its cycle is all.

FWIW If you do that in tank refugium I described earlier, you don't need live rock at all. Just use rock for decorations. The macro algae will prevent the spikes and stabilize operation.
