you do need max light.......anenomes need more light than clams and just as much as sps do.......bubble corals and anenomes are found on dif. parts of the reef ( anenome is higher up)...so they need completely dif lighting.....with 2 X 65
DAYLIGHT BULBS (not actinic) you might be able to keep some zoos and a bubble coral.......sorry but your LFS guy doesn't know what he is talking about.........you say your going to listen but still act like a retard........this is a joke right?

The 3x65 watt i told you to get isn't max. lighting, it's minimum lighting. You shouldn't get anemones with the 2x65 watt, especially carpets.

BTA's and Condy anemones can thrive under less light than clams and sps need. With 2x65 watt (actinic or not) you can keep zoos, shrooms, xenia, leathers, polyps like Gsp, and maybe a bubble or frogspawn (or similar) if it is kept high in the tank.

I have an idea:rolleyes: There is so much info here and on the other BB's why don't you just take your time, do your homework and post some pictures of your tank in two years. If you spent as much time reading as you do posting worthless threads you'd have all the info you need.....
Lets all get together and help this young man help him self. I say we no longer reply to his threads until he's done his homework and shown improvement. That should take until next summer.
Good luck...read more and write less.

Have u not learned in yer long career of annoyingness yet that the lfs is trying to make money off of u and they will tell u wat they need to to get u to buy sumthing. Just becuz it is a bigger store doesnt mean that they know more. Usually the smaller, more privately owned sotres have a much better wealth of knowledge, but the reason you are coming here is to get our advice from experience. The guy there at the lfs may SAY that he use the lights on his own tank, but how do u know? We will tell u taht we have had success with the lights, and be honest at the same time, cuz were not making money here. You should soak in all of the advice you get here, and not compare it with the bs that a fish store throws at you. You said yer starting over, now start. They say minimum lighting for u is 3-65 watts? Then get it, dont go for the lower wattage that they say isnt allright. Also, yer anemone will probably die anyway. It MAY have survived if u had acted on our advice WEEKS ago, but now what? U finally decided to FEED the thing, wen it still needs light anyway, and we were giving this all to u in the first place. So, just forget the 125. You need to learn the right of a good, quality, stable tank before u should even THINK of getting a larger one. Clearly u dont know enough to be setting up a large display, so stick to the smaller stuff. Either sell yer big one, or just leave it hanging around, but dont let it influence u wenever u see it in the basemnet, just disgregard it. U and this 125 is just like a kid in skool. Yer in elementary skool, having passed yet, but u think u can skip straight on through to High Skool. YOU HAVENT PASSED! STAY WITH THE SMALL ONE> once u have had it running, without death and decay, for atleast 6 months MINIMUM, then you can say to yerself, "wow, I really CAN do this. I know what Im doing. Maybe I should give that 125 a shot." Yer setup isnt even good. "some protien Skimmer" "a powersweep powerhead". Try like 4 powersweep powerheads, and no shark powerhead, or two strong powerheads. Ur way in over yer head, u need to get outta this hole that yer digging and get used to this 40 gallon. I am finished for the night, now u can wallow in reality and go visit the store tomorrow with mummy so u can get a STRONG light with the money u were saving for the 125 so you can let yer anemone live.

Lionfish sounds like some kid that every time he wants osmething he annoys the crap out of his mom until she finnally yes and he gets it. Kinda how he annoys the heck out off all of us until he gets an answer he wants to here or if he doesn't get an answer he wants to here he just ignore the advice.

I agree, ill take the money and buy lighting first. Ill ask them what type of lighting i need and what they recommend and what you guys said i need. Ive been talkign to the owner who has tons of tanks. If i can get 3- 65 watt then i will but if i have to go with a tiny bit lower i will, or if highter then great! Im here to take advise and listen now. Thanks

Might go with 2- 65 watt unless i can get a better light there. Plus i can always just get some soft corals and trade the anemone in if it gets better. Thanks again!

ok oyu have a 40 and you want to put 130 watts and put corals in it. my reef is a 20 and thaats howm uch light i have and i dont even want to think about a bubble or some of the harder softies or lps. so think about that your gonna have as much watts on a 40 as i do on a 20 and its a 20 long so its not even deep your 40 is tall thats not gonna work get stronger lights. so there you go anther person tellingoyu what to do and you want to take advise so take it:mad:

not that i want to respond to this thread but...

I have a 29gal with 2x65 PC ( 10,000k and atinic 03 w/2lunars)
I have had no problems at all keeping Xeina, Mushrooms, Zoo's, Green star polyps, Hammer, and frogspawn..
great color, amazing reproduction rates, and growth rates!
but the best is a peice of Orange cap i bought at a frag swap! :D
Ive had it only 2 1/2 weeks and I am already getting noticable growth!

So maybe its just my light fixture, (Since i have been told its one of the best PC units made) but My corals are thriving under it!
however, I think lion needs to grow up ALOT before taking on a reef tank all by himself.. Unless mommy holds his hand threw it I think he's going to probably drowned :hilarious

guys lets not pick on lion... we were all beginners at one point, and everyone knows that knowledge comes with loss. You are not an aquarist until you lose something of value! For me it was my angel fish in freshwater 4 years ago. I had had him for 3 years. When i went into SW i jumped right in, and threw my corals under a 20 watt fluorescent light (holy $h!t i was dumb). Needless to say they died. I picked up and realized what had to be done. Lights are vital. Filters and Skimmers are also vital! Powerheads one of the most vital. I try to make my tank perfect. Right now im ordering a massive cleanup crew that will be here tomorrow. I was penny pinching on my 29, now i realize you have to spend to gain. If you do not spend the money you lose the money you already put into the tank. Every problem has a solution! Lionfish if you read this my suggestion with your anemone is FORGET it, i know you love it, but you have to let it go. Bring it to the big pet store, and show them you are a real aquarist and wants what is best for your anemone. If they don't offer you credit GIVE IT FORE FREE! Ya its tough, but the anemone will most likely die in your tank. I have made mistakes, and i WAS in your shoes. However, i would not give up, and i learned my lesson. I'm asking you to set a trend, and show everyone on this board you want to change! GIVE THE PET STORE YOUR ANEMONE. Upgrade your lights! Make mistakes (we all do and we learn). But, do not make a mistake that we are all forewarning you about. That is all!:)

The good news is that my anemone is slowy getting better b/c im feeding him forwen shrimp.
Condylactics anemones are fairly hardy, but under improper conditions they can be a hassle to care for. If you wanted an improvement, I would recommend getting rid of the anemone -- now. Feeding it is an improvement, although it will have a serious problem retrieving its carbon needs if it is completely void of zooxanthellae.
They ahve both on sale:
How about spending some money anything that's not on sale?
You have a job which seems to be paying an average of $100.00 per week. Why not invest some of this money on your tank? If you're wishing to be keep corals (please reply and let us know if you are), I recommend spending at least $400.00 on a good setup. 4x 60" 160wt VHO's would be excellent on that size aquarium -- of course, you wouldn't keep any calcifying organisms.
Also, What ever happened to the $15.00 400wt PFO lighting setup?

This type of post and activity simply goes around and around. I wish you the best of luck...I seriously do...but lets stop the fun & games. The folks here have offered some serious advice and I'd hope you have benefited from their time and effort. But I can't allow the circle to continue. Please keep us posted on your progress and good luck to you.
