Starting Over

I have an 80 or so gallon tank that used to have plenty of fish in it, but the a wave of diesie whiped out my whole tank besides a Snowflake Moray Eel that is about a foot long, well i wanna start my tank back up and i was wondering if you guys think i should get rid of the eel and start new or work around him, what would you do if this was your tank?

well for beginners such as your self finfollower i frequent water change and cles examination of youf fish at least once a week should prove to keep the tank in great shape. if u notice any glitches or problems with the fish in the tank u should provide imediate treatment with medicines. but since your a beginner its a commen mistake. also feeding your fish to much will cause unneccasary bacteria to grow and damage your fish

First off, Welcome to the board Ed.
As for the tank, how long ago did this happen ? Moray eels are very disease resistant and very hardy animals. So it is no wonder he survived. Since you want to start the tank back up, Do you want to go aggressive or passive/reef ? If you go aggressive keep the SFE, they are not one to eat your other fish (your shrimp that is another story, thats there natural diet.) or harrass things. If you go passive/reef I'd find him a new home. SFE work in a reef but they can cause you problems and can eat your clean up crew.
What you want in your tank will be your choice. IMO If you do a good water change and check the levels in the tank to make sure everything is all right. Then add a couple of cheap damsels and wait two or three weeks to see how they do. If they die or start showing symptoms like your other fish you still have a problem, but after that time if nothing happens you should be ready to begin again.
How big of tank and what are you using for filtration ?

I am planing on going aggresive again, my tank is around 80g's and i use a wet dry system, my other fish died over 6 months ago and since then i have done a water check and the water seems fine, I was just wondering if 6 months solitude could have made the SFE more aggresive/territorial.
thanks

Ok guys, so today i bought about a 5 inch Clown Trigger to put in the tank with my 20 inch SFE, guess what the Clown has my eel scared to death, the SFE is just hidding in coral barly moving while the CT tries to rip it's head off, I've only seen the CT bit the eel once, but he just wont leve the poor guy alone.

A clown trigger in that size tank is not a good idea. Especially a 5" clown. They are very aggressive, and will outgrow that tank. Best to take the trigger back IMO.
