I did a 25 percent water change last night and I tested this morning and there wasn't a change. The Nitrates were still 160. The Ammonia went down from 0.50 to 0.25 - thats it.
PH leval went from 8.0 to 8.2
Nitrite is 0 ppm both days - no change there
Advice?
Thanks

I was wondering and I've read that it's not a good idea to use store bought chemicals to lower the nitrate levals, do you agree? My husband wants to buy something to lower the nitrate but I've always heard not to do this?
Am I misinformed?
Thanks

yes I agree any thing you buy will just the traits over to trites. we need to find the real problem. do you live in a fairly large city where you can find a salt wter fish store that is open today? I know atlanta has a few

I think you should get your water independantly tested at your LOCAL FISH STORE as well, whats your flitration like, mechanical, biological? live sand? Do you have a protein skimmer as well?

Me personally, If you have sufficent LIVE ROCK and a deep sand bed and a have a protein skimmer, I just would run a good hang on back filter with filter floss and some carbon, These are easy to clean and maintain, where the canister filter have been directly indicted on raising nitrates and need to be maintained constantly.
