OK...........We have a Pink and Blue spot Watchman Goby. So we decide to get a Pistol Shrimp for him because thats what we should do.........right! We add the shrimp and he starts to swim right for the Goby! The Goby comes dashing out of his hole and grabs him............and rips off his head!!!!!!!
WHAT HAPPENED!!?

Submitted for your pleasure, a reefkeeper, totally committed to his craft, introduces a supposed friend to his goby........then...........BAM
Never heard of this before. Just one of those things I guess.

I could not believe it! First I thought that the Goby was swimming out to greet his new tank/soulmate. He grabbed him in his mouth and dragged him into his cave. I thought OK........maybe this is normal! The shrimp is supposed to be somewhat blind, maybe the Goby is showing him their new home! Next thing the poor shrimp comes crawling out about 2 inches and again the Goby dashes out and grabs him and twists his head and rips the shrimps head clear off his body!

The funny thing is we spent about 2 hours last nite trying to catch a Purple Lobster that we had in the tank because lately we have lost some of our smaller fish, A coral Shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimp and our favorite a Diamond Goby. We thought that the Lobster was the culprit. So we get him out and off to the Fish Store we go tonite to get some new fish. Bring home a new Diamond Goby and the Pistol Shrimp and this happens. Now we are wondering if maybe the Lobster was not the problem at all. ........Maybe the Pink and Blue Spot needs to go!!
What do you think!
By the way we have a 155 gallon Reef

Doesn't seem like the goby would do all of that, but maybe you got the Jeffery Dalmer of gobies!!!!!!!!!!

Have anyone else had an experience where a Watchman Goby killed a Pistol Shrimp?
Should we remove the Goby or still consider the Lobster the culprit!?
What's more likely?
Please help! I really don't want to go through another killing like that!

mine did the same thing.
make sure the goby is FED quite a bit, then add the shrimp. the pbsg's are carnivores, and unfortunately shrimp are on their diets

Greetings

This is slightly off-topic, but I have had a Pink and Blue Shrimp Goby for about two months. He (she?) seems to be pretty well-mannered and generally does Goby-like things, but yesterday when I got home from work, I noticed GobyFish (that's what I call him...) swimming towards the area under the live rock that he calls home. Something didn't look right, so I got a little closer to the tank and realized that he had a Hermit Crab in his mouth. He swam until he was close to his home turf and then spat the crab into the sand tunnel under the live rock! The Hermit Crab "played dead" for a few seconds and then appeared from his shell with a WTF look before scrambling back to whatever he was doing before being kidnapped. I have noticed several crabs in that area before, but didn't really question why they were congregating, and I had never seen that behavior from the Goby before yesterday. GobyFish didn't act like he wanted to do any bodily harm to the crab (or maybe he did but couldn't because of the shell...), but he clearly seemed to feel like he had the right to set the crab's traveling agenda. It had a "squirrel storing nuts for winter" feel to it, albeit in an aquatic sort-of-way...
