I've talked to a few of you but need some other ideas. Ican't get my sting ray to eat. I've tried ghost shrimp, krill, both by stick, hand or just on the bottom and now im soaking the krill in garlic. The poor guy seems like he is trying to escape from the tank out of the top. He rests a minute and then flies around bumping the glass. Any other ideas, this is my first ray and i don't want to lose him. I thought my maroon might be bothering him cause he would fly by his anemone home, so I QT the maroon for the night. Any info would be great.... :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

how long have you had your ray? Mine acted very crazy at first too and wouldn't eat. he just kept doing laps around the tank like A NASCAR driver on crack. after a few weeks he mellowed out and would only come to the surface to eat. Get some gost shrimp and toss them in and just leave them a few days. thats how I got julies to eat. WAIT till he actually starts eating to use a feeding stick or hand. You could be scaring him by trying to presure him in to eatting.
also make sure in the mean time you lid is secure. other wise your ray WILL jump out.

Give the stingray "squid" and don't soak it with garlic because he won't eat it. He likes "squid"
I had the same problem with my stingray too. I've had my stingray for 2 years in a 60 gallons tank with no problems.
good luck.

I agree with squid... silversides may work too. Buy it frozen from the lfs and thaw a chunk to make sure it will sink. Rays don't see well but these foods have very strong odors that generally attract them.

I said this in another post but I dont know which one but my bamboo did not eat for a about 2 weeks then I did some water changes and got my salt down 2 points which was the salt from where she came from and she immediately began to eat the next day. Hope this helps.

when i feed my rays i give them scallops. they love them. my fly around the tank like mad men until it touches their nose then they swoop it up. when i start to feed mine they go all over the tank til they find it and the fight is on.

My ray hated scallops . I was told by LFS that they loved them but mine never did eat them. I purchased squid which he loved at the local supermarket in the deli dept. as soon as they found out I was feeding a shark and sting ray they gave me a really good deal . 5lbs for ten bucks and a little fresh scallops for free as a sample.

Don't buy the squid at the super market. Because it has ink and if you don't was it good it will kill or get the rey sick.Go to the fish store and ask to get squid little piece's. good luck!
and don't get  it will eat.

I really hate to bring up past arguments but how long did you really think you could keep a sting ray in a 60 gallon tank? Many of us tried telling you that that was too small of a tank for a sting ray and a shark, among everything else that you have in there. Of course he is going to try and escape. He is in too small of a tank and he is stressed out, thus the reason he does not want to eat.

I agree , stingrays dont eat for a reason. Its either bad water perameters, not enough space, fish compadibility, you bought it sick, or subtrate.

Being that he has had the ray for 2 years, he did not buy it sick and it is well-used to the substrate in his tank.

lion crazz- I think you have me mixed up with someone else. Nobody has ever said my tank was too small, I know this because I never asked. He is very small, and my tank is a 90 wave, so his side, the widest of the tankk, is completely empty. He can swim around the entire rock pile on the other side, and there is currently only three other inhabitants, a large perc, yellow tang, and green wolf eel. Oh also a green brittle that only comes out of his cave at night. Everyone gets along fine. I dont understand why everybody gets so upset about tank size. I know the ray will eventually outgrow my tank, but I will either bring him back to the lfs for his huge tank or I may end up upgrading larger myself. But if I can enjoy him for a year or more, why not. As long as I provide a "happy" home, whats the harm?

Just a few idea for you to think about.your tank is too little . RAY'S need a lot of open sand to swim across. A 125 with minimal rock is the smallest you shoud keep a ray in. Seriously would you be happier in a one bedroom apt or a ten bedroom house? one of your other fish is picking on your ray while your not around. You are picking on your ray trying to get it to eat. What ever the reason is the poor thing is STRESSED OUT . For its sake I suggest you take it back to LFS now .

You dont even know the demension of his tank. It could have the same surfacearea space as a 125. Also I think 90 is ok for calis and yellows for a while.

I am getting a stingray on wednesday. I have a 125 gallon with abot 60lbs of rock in the two corners. The whole middle of the tank is open sand. The guy is getting me a teacup sized atlantic ray, I believe also called round ray. Any one had these or have one? How are they as far as eatting and surival rate, the guy told me they have at least an 80% chance of eatting well and adjusting. Also I run a emperiour 400, fluval 404, jebo 180 skimmer, and a 50 gallon DIY wet dry sump with 5 gallons of bioballs. Is this enough filtration for the ray, also how are they with nitrates, my tank runs around 10-20ppm. Also is a 125 with my rock work ok for him? Thanks!
