What types of stingray can you have in a tank. Do they have personality like triggers or are they smart like octopuses. Any response would be nice, the reason I ask is because I swam with them in the Caribbean.

California Round Stingrays, Yellow Spotted Stingrays, and Cortez Stingrays are the recommended 3 for the home aquarium. All acclimate well to aquarium life. However you can pretty much buy any Stingray you would like if you find a collector willing to collect it for you. Such at Bat Rays, Manta Rays, Southern Stingrays, Blue Spotted ect. Rays have great personalities and are very active if they are healthy and fed well. In the Carribean you probable seen a few Yellow Spotted Stingrays forsure.

you shouldnt keep blue dots in the home aquaria, calis and yellow are a great choice although calis should have cooler water temps to thrive.. and from my experience if fed properly and in a big enough tank with sufficient tankmates stingrays are VERY active! that is if they are happy

Thanks guys, are there any reef stingray? Are they okay with corals? How many can you have in a tank of 150 gallons? thanks again you guys and girls really help. What do your look like ( I just want some good examples).

Masta Man - 150 is really to small for any Ray for longer term. Remember with Rays and Sharks, width is more important than length. For a Cortez Ray, the smallest of the Rays available in the home aquaria trade, needs alteast 30" width, and when dealing with Rays you ideally want 40". What are the dimensions of your 150?

2 ft X 3ft X 2.5ft , But my tank has a big sump like thing on the back of it here is a pic of it looking up to down. The sump from the back sticks out about a half foot.

Is this a good illustration

Masta Man - So thats 2' long, 3' wide, and 2.5' high? Thats way to small for any Ray unfortunatly. They need atleast 250gallons roughly dimension wise. But, I can help you build a very cheap Ray pond which will look amazing, give you more than enough room for the rays, and not cost you alot.
Kevin34 - The smallest Ray, available in the aquaria trade is the Cortez Ray. I would not place any Ray with corals personally. A tank 250gallons, or roughly 6'x3'x2' would be sufficent for a Cortez.
