Stinky live rock

New to the hobby...I was in a lfs today...the guy working there was putting "live" rock from a styro box into a large tank located on the floor (Mixing it with all of the other rock.)When he opened the box a stench that almost knocked be down bellowed out! I asked the guy..."What's up with the smell?" His response was..."This rock has been in this box for a week." Needless to say....I passed on purchasing any lr
Thoughts?

Uncured live rock out of the water does have a bad stink. Once you cure it the smell will be gone.
