Stinky rocks?

Im starting my first tank and plan on introducing the live rocks directly into my 55 gallon tank in my living room. From what I read, they smell really bad when curing. Will the stench be unbearable? should I cure them in the garage first, then bring them inside?

Hhhhmmm! Smell yes, but only noticable outside the tank in my experience. I've cured lots of rock while cycling aquariums, and I've never noticed a smell. You don't want to cure the rock in your tank if you've already cycled (as you will experience another one), but otherwise you should be fine IMO.

I never thought it smelled that bad. Run plenty of carbon in what every filter you have and it shouldn't be bad at all. Uncured live rock smells bad if you take it out of water and smell it.

no... you notice it, but it's not bad... especially to those used to working around aquariums. Non-fish people may notice it more.
I recently cured 350lbs of the stuff in 3 huge stock tanks in a back bedroom of my house, and for the first week or so, you smelled it down on that side of the house, but it honestly kind of reminded me of the ocean... almost pleasant.
Of course my sister came for a visit and asked what the "stench" was.
I guess the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you, might not be right for some...

... of course, there's always air fresheners.

It can be pretty bad. I had it in my garage during the warmer months and the garage stunk, I think that is an indication that you need to change the water.

uncured rock makes me wanna throw up honestly... I think cured rock kinda smells almost like a strong dirt IMO. I am new to this though but thus far have been around thousands of pounds of LR cured andd uncuredd from different stores I have hit around 30 stores in just a few weeks. My opinion probably does not amount to much though.
