I have a 58 gallon that is about to reach its 6 week anniversary and should be ready to put the first fish in Friday or Saturday! I was thinking about these: P.S. this will eventually be a reef tank
2 clowns (false percs?)
Coral Beauty
Lawnmower Blenny
I was thinking 3 green chromis as first inhabitants but have heard mixed reviews on these fish I want some kind of peacefull schooling fish though
eventually a mandarin (after I get a fuge)
and are tangs at all possible?
I have 35 snails and 13 hermits and I want to get a cleaner shrimp and serpent star

ok so no tangs, other than that is my list so rediculous (sp?) that no one wants to take a stab at it? I am getting my first fish in 2 days so I need the input

your list seems fine, has room for a couple more fish
cardinals
wrasse
firefish
gramma
anthias
maybe a small foxface.

I would maybe switch out the lawnmower to a midas or bi-color unless you are ok with supplemental nori sheets for him. I would go ahead and add the two clowns first at the same time....

Do you have QT set up? Get true percs. They are gorgeous fish. Much prettier IMO. I see nothing wrong with that fish list. They all stay small. Add the the angel last.

Thanks for the replies everyone!
saltman, I was thinking about pajama cardinals? How many?
oceansidefish, I dont mind nori sheets. I have hair algae at the moment anyway..
crypt keeper, Yes I do have a QT its only 10 gallons though, but my fantasy fish are pretty small so I think it will be ok.
Do you all think I need to QT the first fish I put in? Whats the point if there are no other fish to get sick?

rooky question warning: What exactly is the difference in true and false percs?

Well clown fish if you get them first have a disease all on their own. Its called brookenlla. It will show up in the first few weeks and kill them fairly quick. All of your fish you will probably buy small and 10 gallons for most of them is nothing for a few weeks. It will save you time money and heartache. You have it set up. Might as well use it

a pair or a trio would be pretty cool.
it all depends on you own opinion. I never QT but that's becuase I buy from 1 supplier that has very healthy fish. Many people will tell you to QT, which you should do if your not sure about the quality of your fish supplier.

The eyes are the biggest tell all. Then the color. I just think the more black on orange and white pops more.
true

false

very helpful guys thanks! I think I will get 3 pajama cardinals instead of the chromis and true percs instead of the false. + the lawnmower, coral beauty and mandarin. I want to keep the list short at first until I really get a feel for the hobby. If I put the clowns in first isnt there a risk of them becoming territorial and pestering all the fish I add thereafter? I had planned to add them next to last (and the angel last) I was going to get the schooling fish first. In this case the pajama cardinals

IMO the flame angel is much prettier than the coral beauty. I would've chosen the false over the true percs but its your decision. Hey word of advice though look into all the clown species before you buy and make sure you get the ones you want and are willing to keep for a few years. In a 58 gallon the clowns may get territorial against other clowns. Just be ready to stick to your decision for a couple years. (Clowns can live up to 10 years)

That is a good idea. I would do what you posted. I also vote for the Flame Angel. Its way prettier than the coral beauty. Cardinals are great fish. Make sure you QT any fish you plan on adding. These will allow them to not fight over food. Acclimate easier. Can get them eating easier. And most importantnly if something shows up you can fix it before it kills your entire tank. There are some medications like copper if you put in your main tank will kill any and all corals.

Well I have decided on the false percs as my first fish. If I want two do I have to get a mated pair? Or can I just buy two at the same time. I dont care about having babies but I do want them to be friends

They dont necessarily have to be mated. Get two false percs and make sure one is bigger than the other. The pecking order and sexing should ensue thereafter.

I vote flame angel as well, but as above mentions add him last if at all possible to avoid territory issues. Or if you add him first move your live rock around when you add the new fish in. Bi-Color angels are also quite pretty, but ultimatly I went with the flame and have been very happy with my choice.

I'd like to think they would but I have never ordered from SWF. I think you might be able to leave a note when you are ordering?
