One thing I know about stone fish is they are extremely venomous. So you should use extreme caution when handling or feeding it. The fins are bad news.. VERY BAD NEWS...

You should educate yourself immediately,.... before handling or feeding it.

Whatever you do use extreme caution. The most deadliest fish in the ocean is the stonefish.
Make sure you tell anyone else that works with you and the person who you are selling it to to take caution with this fish.

Every once in a while, a question comes along that just seems impossible. I apologize if this isn't the case; but a pet store receiving a genuine stonefish seems impossible; especially a lfs that has limited experience. A lawsuit waiting to happen, or you're just having fun.I'm guessing the latter.

I have seen a few stonefish in LFS that deal with alot of saltwater fish. My LFS has one for around 100.00$ and it has killed its tank mates already it was a large ray if I had the room and my kids was not that young I would buy him but that will have to what

ok the fish is similar to the one in the picture but it is all grey no red on it and it came labled rock fish.but on this website the only thing i could find was a stone fish.and i realy cant imagine our wholesaler sending her anything poisonous cause they know she doesnt have any real salt water experience, and i wasnt there when she ordered so they usually tell her and when she got a foxface in the bag was labled venomous and this bag wasnt.

Rockfish, AKA stone fish are very venomous. Feed him live foods. Distrubutors VERY often label things wrong. If it looks like the fish in the pic then it is a stone fish. They don't do it on purpose, most of the time, they label it as it is sold to them.

A reputable wholesaler would never do this; any injury and they'd be sued for everything they have. I'm betting its just ignorance on some employees part.

this fish looks exactly like the fish on this website for sale for $19.99 due to flooding in our area i just got to take a real good look at it and,the bag it came in does say rock fish and does not say venomous.it ate the pepermint shrimp that i didnt know was in that tank,so guess i know what it eats now.
but no worries it will be leaving on tuesday.thanks again.

Have you ever been to a distribution warehouse? It is rows and rows of tanks. Things are often mislabeled. I used to go pick out my own fish, but it was a 2 hr trip. Then I started having things shipped. Things get mislabeled. Often times it is something that can be distorted along the line as in this case. It starts off with the latin name, which translates into stone fish, which next gets labeled as rockfish. It is an innocent mistake that could, potentially become lethal, but a very common mistake. It happens.

I've been to several; that's why I said "employee ignorance". Probably at the wholesaler level.

Maybe you should review the boss's fish orders. You ask questions, would be doing the boss a big favor, and should get a raise.I was under the impression you received this fish as a mistake. I know its your boss, but a lfs ordering fish they know nothing about sure helps confirm what a lot of folks on this forum say about lfs.
