Storing Live Rock?

Is there any way to store live rock? Can it be stored dry? There's a local guy that has some leftover to sell me pretty cheap. Since I don't have a tank yet, what method would it be my best bet? Thanks so much!

if you store it dry then it won't be LR anymore... you can dry it out though and rinse it off in freshwater so you can use it as base rock when you get your tank then seed it with some LR. if you want to keep it live then you will need to get something like a storage container, get some SW from your fish store, a heater and a powerhead and put the rock in the bin.

just get a $10 walmart 10 gallon or better yet 20-45g storage bin (trash can, buckets it really doesn't matter) and a $15 powerhead and store it in saltwater. this time of year you probably dont need to worry about temp control with just liverock. I kept rock like this in the garage. you have to keep it in saltwater and you have to have circulation otherwise it will be dead rock.

When do you plan on getting a tank and how much rock are you getting? If it is only a small amount of rock, and you are not planning on getting a tank yet, then you could just dry it for base rock later. New live rock will re-seed it. If the rock is good, and you are setting up a tank soon, then definitely consider keeping it alive as mentioned.

Ya, thats my problem, it might be up to a month before I get a tank! Could you store it in some tubs with a heater and a powerhead for that long?
