storing salt

What do you all store you salt in?
I put some in a clean, dry icecream bucket with a lid and the salt went hard quite fast. I continued to use it as there is nothing wrong with it. All my inverts, fish etc are okay. Just would like to know why it went hard?

Moisture. It should be fine. I have a bag of salt thats solid.
I heard of some people leaving a stick in the middle of the bucket. When the salt gets solid, just move the stick and it will break up. Some people simply give the bucket a good kick to break it up. With my bag, I just drop it from a few inches height and it crumbles.
