I buy both salt and fresh water from lfs.
How long can the water be stored in a sealed 5 gal bucket?

I would cover the bucker, but not seal it. Make sure you have circulation (powerhead) and airation (airstone) and you should be able to keep it infdeffiently.

I would say don't let it sit for more than a few days. It will start to get stagnant.
You would want to drink water that has been sitting for 5 days straight...
By putting in a powerhead or stone you should be fine for MUCH longer.

well, if you thought about water coolers with 5 gal water jugs, they keep that water for a long time ! so, is it ro water that is being stored, or ro water with salt added to it being stored, or is it the salt water that you buy from the LFS in the 4 gal jugs being stored?

you'll be fine no matter but if its open u may get a dusty film over it.
I do the same thing, It's easier to buy it rather then mix it. I have like 6-8 buckets with the lid and breather cap and I buy em all in advance to needing them since I now live an hour away from the fish store. I know what buckets your talking about too, just leave em sealed up and water DON'T go bad. If you don't have a sump though you probably should aggitate the bucket "shake it" before adding it to your tank so some of the salt isn't sitting on the bottom if it's been sitting for weeks.
