Just bought a rock from a lfs. They did not know what it was. They said they had had it for a month and it seemed lifeless?
I was intreived by it so I bought it for $20.
(abought the size of an orange)Worried at first but went ahead and placed it into my tank.
Within an hour of this, my lighting system came on and the rock started opening up!
The rock doubled in size and now i'm very excited! defenatly a Flowerpot/Goniopora.
I did some reading an most say that these have a short life span :(
There are thousands of articles on this but I would rather have some of you here tell me this is not true.
Thanks ;)

ganiporias are hard to keep cause they need very good lighting and water quality. im not sure what there needs are besides lighting (intence, blue lighting) moderate water flow being heavy once in a while. I have one and is doing great! I'm learning the needs of these corals cause i love them! lol. I placed mine on the sand. I tried diffrent positions and he seemed to like the bottom better (dont be thinking dirty thoughts) I have a pic of it on my web page http://www.geocities.com/seabass30us/Mytank.html

I have to say a flowerpot usually does well for about 1 year or so and then slowly starts to die. These corals have specific needs that most aquriums dont have. One being "dirty" water. I do not mean muddy water i mean nutrient rich water which most protein skimmers remove. Recently I went to atlanta on a trip and went into a guys house who has had a flowerpot for 4 years now. I asked him about it and how he kept it alive and he repiled "Do nothing to your water". I questioned that and he said " No protein skimming no addatives and 5% water change a month" Now that goes against everything i have heard about keeping corals but then again this was the only coral in this tank. As far as lighting 2 40watt flourecent bulbs. one actinic and one daylight. I will try to get him to send a pic and post it on here later. It is beautifull.. By the way it was on the bottom and once a month he would stir a litle sand on it..
