I think it's wrong and irresponsible to take a creature from the ocean that you have no clue how to care for{what it eats, etc} not to mention it's illegal to take it from Florida waters. There are laws in Florida to protect certain species...you have to have permits to collect.

well im sorry for your concern. It is alive and well, and i have done my studies and asked several marine specialists that i know personally about this creature and exactly how to care for it. and i do have permits, shellfish, diving, spearfishing, blah blah blah...I even have a permit for my eastern diamond back rattlesnake that i keep. Mister wildlife man comes every 60 days to check on my rattler to insure it is in good hands.i think if i can keep one of the most venomous species of snakes in the US, then i can handle and take good care of a sea pansy. I do respect your concern, don't take me the wrong way here please, many people do not care and just take take take. but i assure you that it is in capable hands, and if i ever had any doubts when i got it, i would have turned it free. As for pics, I have to finish out my roll which should be done today, <just built a new refugium i want to show off...LOL> I have also put the sea pansy in a 30 gallon species tank with 2 sea horses, <my little blue legs wanted to pick at it> It is in a sand bed of 7 inches, it has grown since i have had it. it is about 4 inches across the top of its head and the polyps are 1/2 inch long.

And so why did you ask what it was and how to care for it on the new hobbyist forum at SWF.com ?

I am also willing to guarantee there is not any statute or law on the books that allows you to take this particular species from the ocean, and certainly not off the beach.

What's the big deal?let the guy alone.I'm sure the first attempts at keeping a clownfish in a tank failed and was at one time thought impossible.I'm sure there is a "tree hugger" forum out there for all who are constantly bashing and critizing people so go be unhappy with them. These forums are supposed to be for people who need help to get it.
