Ive been trying to gain weight for quite some time now...
I eat an excess of 1000 calories more than i should in one day just to make up for my high metabolic rate.
i have decided maybe im not looking to get alot bigger... just alot stronger.
Is gaining strength easier than gaining weight?
when i work out i usually start with more than i could handle the previous week... im just tryin to get up there.

When you gain strenght, you'll gain weight, in muscle, which weighs more than fat. If you're going to start weight training to gain mass, you need to do a LOT of weight, with little reps. This'll tear up your muscles good n plenty. Then you need to get a LOT of protein in your diet, as this is what will repair your muscle. Eat a lot of carbs too, as this will be your energy during this time. Try to avoid simple carbs, like sugar, and go for the complex carbs, like potatos, rice, etc. You also shouldn't eat too much fat, but you're allowed to have some... sorry, hubby's a body builder.

well lets start from the begining
how tall are you?
how much do you weigh?
how much protien do you eat/Dreank?
how many meals are you eating?
how often do you lift?
and the most important whats your goal
and trust me your not the only one battleing this game. Ive been playing that game for 5 years. i went from 125--->135----> (big jump)----> 155 and now 195---> acually i just got done throwing a bunch of close away cause they dont fit

Im 6'1"
i weigh 140
I eat around 5- 6 meals per day.
I probably consume an excess of 1000 calories over my suggested level
Im not sure exactly how much protein i consume.. I drink two 55g shakes morning and night and eat meat with every meal.
I work out 5 days a week sometimes 6 depending on how bored i get.

I know a little bit about this as well..
I probably consume an excess of 1000 calories over my suggested level
Double that...at least...
And this is why....
I work out 5 days a week sometimes 6 depending on how bored i get.
In order to gain weight, you have to consume and process (assimilate) more calories than you "burn" ...
At 6'1" with this kind of workout schedual and a high metabolism to start with you should be in the 4000 to 4500 a day range...
...I "probably" consume...
You may want to start keeping an "Exact" count...You may not be getting as much as you think...

i'd nix the shakes... too much sugar. Instead, eat a LOT of chicken, tuna, etc... Full of protein.

your body can process around 35 grams of protein every four hours. protein shakes are fine alot of them dont have that much sugar. mucsle milk is one of the best tasting ones on the market doesnt contain creatine but helps your body produce more of its own creatine which is found naturally in your muscles. NO2 is a good product that helps build new muscle. you want your desired weight in grams of protein a day. take a good quality multi vitamin that is natural with lots of antioxidants when you workout you get free radical
damage antioxidants help with that. unless your over thirty do not take anything that is considered a testosterone booster. if you are under 25 do not take creatine isnt good for you. you say you work out six times a week your muscles grow when they are recovering from the workout not while youre working out if you do not give your muscles time to recover they will not grow. take protein after you workout for recovery to put back into your muscles. eat a meal an hour and a half before you workout not a huge meal just something small that is not a protein bar or shake. And there are good fats and bad fats good fats help your joints, hair, skin, nails, brain, eyes, heart, and cholesterol.

agreed no creatine until you're done with natural growth. i play b-ball every night i can (by myself because i'm not into banging other guys, but i work it hard) eat a lot of italian and barbeque. in high school i tried doing the whole protien blender thing and all, but never gained. now i cook as a hobby for everyone and i'm getting pretty big. it really surprised me the other day when a guy at work said "i wouldn't mess w/you" and another guy asked me to help him in his repo business. i was 6' 150 in hs, now i'm 6'2 185 without a big belly.
if you watch college bball at all you can see how freshmen 18yrolds go to seniors 22yrolds, and gain height and weight. don't push creatine or steroids until you are completely naturally grown. even then don't push steroids. one of my friends used to be a personal trainer until he saw his friend crippled. he was using steroids and bought bogus liquid. he injected it into his legs, worked out, and the next day he was paralyzed from the waist down.
overall, i'd say be patient, never stop weight training, and eat lots of proteins in the form of fish, meats, eggs. have your shake as a drink to add to meals. don't replace a meal with them, they'll fill you up and you won't be hungry.

PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN I would say double you protein intake. this is my get big and stay trim meal- Now be aware if pry wont be able to eat everything in one sitting just work your self into it.
wake up at 6 and start eating remember the latter you wait, the less you eat-the longer it takes to get big. i have allso found that supplementing shakes for food will keep you lean while getting the mass amounts of protien you need.
watter or juice with each meal- NO SODA
meal 1-
8 eeg whites (absolutely NO yolks)
2 servings oat meal or malto meal- i use milk no watter
banna
2.5 hours latter-
large protien shake
2 hours latter-
large chicken

[hr]
1 cup broclie
1 large potatoe
2.5 hours latter
large protien shake
piece of frute
NOW WERE GETTING BIG
2-3 hours latter
8 eeg whites
piece of frute
some soft of spud
I think you get the picture and thats just untill abot 2-3 in the afternoon at this point people are starting to ask you "how do you eat all that food" and thats when you know your not eating enough....you want people to stop and galk

i ditto the eating protein every 2 1/2 hours, your body needs fuel and it will take it from your muscule if you dont feed it, and i would try to get 200 grams of protein a day, through drinks or chicken...and from mass lift heavy and less reps, try 6 reps per set if you can do that then go up in weight even if its just 2 1/2 lbs. but dont forget cardio you still need to keep your heart healthy, and if all that doesnt work call barry bonds he can give you something to make you big...lol..sorry, had to throw that in.

another imput is- high traces of mercury found in tuna lead to the FDA only advises people to eat 1 to 2 cans a week. if that. and the protien shakes i dreank usually have on average 40-->55g
